On Friday 19th September Peter had the pleasure of visiting local Mid Leicestershire business Rothley Wines to hear more about the challenges faced by vineyards and small producers of English Wine.
Director Liz Robson was at hand to explain the processes and the many environmental challenges, such as:
Floods,
Frost,
Fog,
Fungus, and
Foxes!
Speaking after his visit Peter said
It has been a fascinating tour and I will be raising with the Treasury ideas that central government could implement to help small wine producers thrive.
In particular the need to extend the small producers allowance to those producing English Wine, as well as a review of VAT rates for the tourism and hospitality sector.
