Having grown up in a single-parent household and gone on to be elected as the first-ever Member of Parliament for Mid Leicestershire, Peter passionately believes that it does not matter who you are, or where you were born; it is what you do with your life that matters.
However, he also understands that there are still barriers to aspiration in society.
That’s why Peter, and his Conservative Colleagues, voted to scrap Stamp Duty last week: to give thousands of people, particularly the young, the opportunity to own their own homes.
Regrettably, Labour voted against this ambitious measure.
Following the vote, Peter said:
“It’s clear the Labour Party do not believe in aspiration, nor do they trust the public to be responsible for their own lives.”
“They want more reliance on the state, more taxes, and to punish hard work.”
“People deserve a proper chance at home ownership, and today, the Government crushed that.”
