Yesterday, the Welfare Bill was back in Parliament, and it went down like a lead balloon! On the Floor of the House of Commons, I highlighted just how poorly it has been thought out, from its original inception, to its current form, forged by countless U-turns from the Prime Minister to satisfy his own MP’s. The Bill will not save us a significant amount of money, but will likely instead end up costing us more: The Buy Now, Pay Later Chancellor strikes again! When the Work and Pensions Secretary introduced the Bill, I, alongside other Conservative colleagues, gave three reasonable asks to make it workable; she chose to ignore them.
