During a debate in Parliament, Peter highlighted the growing pressures that charities in his constituency, and across the UK are facing.
Whether that’s higher running costs driven by inflation, the increase to the National Living Wage making hiring more staff unaffordable, or changes to Business Rates cutting in to budgets, it all points to the same conclusion: a government that isn’t adequately supporting the charity sector.
After the debate, Peter said:
Local charities like Wyggestons & Trinity Almshouses, Rainbows Hospice, LOROS, and many others have made it clear that the current economic climate is making their future uncertain.
Unless the Government takes drastic action soon, we will continue to see more and more charities close for good, destroying local communities and leaving the most vulnerable in society without the support they desperately need."
