Peter Bedford MP has voted against the Second Reading of the Football Governance Bill, arguing that it represents an unnecessary and heavy-handed intervention in one of the UK’s most successful industries.
Peter he has made clear his view that the English football league has thrived as a free market. This free market has led to a globally broadcast league, passionate support from fans and much needed investment throughout the pyramid. Government Regulation is not always the answer!
He raised concerns that the proposed ‘Independent Football Regulator’ would add another layer of bureaucracy, stifling clubs rather than supporting them. He also criticised existing Profit and Sustainability Rules, claiming they entrench the dominance of top clubs while leaving others struggling.
Peter supports greater collaboration between the Premier League and the English Football League to address challenges around financial distribution and grassroots support. However, he believes this Bill risks undermining the game with red tape rather than strengthening it.
Peter Bedford MP remains committed to defending successful UK sectors from burdensome regulation.
