Doing the right thing will be the overarching theme of my work next year.
This will entail making sure those who make the right life choices are not penalised by the Government.
Whether that’s letting people save more of the money they earn for later life, and more freedoms to stand on their own two feet instead of relying on the benefits system.
Put simply, the state needs to mind its own business and let people get on with their lives.
Backing Business
Our area is home to so many wonderful and popular local businesses, I want to do all I can to support them.
I know it’s been tough recently, with the policies announced by the Government; whether that is the hike in National Insurance contributions or their damaging Employment Rights Bill adding unneeded uncertainty.
That’s why I will be doing all I can to push the Government to stop hindering growth and start backing business.
Supporting the next generation
Having grown up in a single-parent household I know too well just how difficult it can be as a young person to build a life for yourself.
With youth unemployment skyrocketing, our younger generation are struggling to save, buy their own homes and start a family; I want to change this.
I have already had some success in this area, with the Government listening to my proposal to make financial education compulsory for all primary and secondary school children; giving them a better start in life.
However, I want to go further and do more to support future generations to thrive.
